We'll be removing this forum in the coming days. If you'd like to move any posts you may have, or anything of the like, be sure to do so soon. Any serious discussion will take place in General Discussion. Thank you.
So...is this to discourage debates and the arguments that arise from it or to make the forum less cluttered in preparation for Reach? Both? I do like the debate forum, it makes you think about what you value and teaches you how to win an argument logically. Completely getting rid of it and discouraging debates would be bad, but I think a merge is fine. Wtf mace? Some kind of complaint generator? Seems like gibberish.
There wasn't much debating going on...it was more like flaming back and forth. Real discussions can take place in the General Discussion in the future, but this section is far from a decent place to debate (there are plenty of wonderful websites dedicated to that). We'd rather it merge in with the General Discussion and not be a hindrance to our community's longevity (as it seems to just make people angry at each other), and to make more room for future boards and simplicity.
Honestly, the average user's age and maturity on this site is just too low for worthwhile debate. Good riddance to this, it's caused more division than discussion.
i disagree with the removing of this section. I have learned many new things from many different people, about many different subjects! I've learned about simulation theory, determinism and many other things, some of which I have come to believe through this forum! Yes some are in possession of a 5 year olds intellect, but they get punished, all the forums have them. Some idiot was posting about that green-something-something band? Others dont read the rules, post half finished maps without a download link or pics, THEN after a download link is added, its to the fileshare and you're forced to guess what file as the thread name is only "my best map evor!!!1!". Do those people mean we should shut down the map section? of course not, many discuss the maps in hand politely, and with constructive criticism, to allow the map build to improve for the V2 (as well as posting maps themselves perfectly). The case is true for debates IMO. Insane, you say many flame, I would have to disagree, many post their opinions with facts behind them, and rebuttal others. IF it ever spiraled to a flame war, sure that just means it is the time to close the thread? Which I know is an unfair thing to ask the moderators "watch the debates for a flame war" but you know, a quick glance and many could tell a flame war was happening. although... i'm pretty sure thats what mods are there for... With no disrespect. (and apologies if i am wrong, as that would make me look like a very big tit) My biggest concern with this is the merge, would it be in a subsection entitled "debates" or would it be a prefix? Personally, until it is unused I feel it should stay as it is. I could find a site just for debates, but I dont want to. Many people on other sites would also be honing their debating skills, here? its just people talking like people do. There was once a time where I forgot all about forgehub for about 2-3 months. The maps somehow bored me, and competitions seemed all done and dusted with a couple of heavyweights in the picture. But the debates brought me back, it was new, hidden at the bottom of the forums, where I could discuss my theories and opinions with normal people like us (I use the term "normal" very loosely). Then, when scrolling down to check the debates that were ensuing, I found screenshots and off-topics and found a completely new side to forgehub. What my point is; without debates being its own forum on show, I may never have seen anything the site has to offer. Which would be sad. I'd hate to think others may think "nothing is going on" as I did and not realize there is so much more, just because (i'm assuming this "princess purple" as mace seems pretty mad at her...) wants to move something, with no reasoning as of yet (although I accept some are happy for this move). Just to add (I know my wall is growing, i'll try to keep it shorter than Mace's) I dont see why general wouldnt be added into debates if anything, it make more logical sense. you shouldnt have to sort through general topics to get to serious debates, it should be the other way around, to make those who have much to offer not just settle with general discussion. I hope that all made sense...
i have nothing to add to this debate, however i am for it not being removed. i really like this forum, and even through the division that some people are saying we at least respect each others opinion.
This isn't a debate, it's a statement. No matter how much you debate it, it's up to the administrators.
Well, I'm sorry you enjoyed a, to be completely honest, awful forum. There were very, very few good posts here. Here's some examples of some recent threads we've had. Here's an example of a real debate turned into opinions Here's an example of an OP who has no backing on his thoughts and just goes ahead anyway. Flame war ensues. And of course, there's the God debate. We've had "debates" on Kobe vs. Lebron...it's not a debate forum. The amount of people who followed the rules were about zip. The mods are unwilling to moderate the section, because it would entail infracting 90% of posts. For that reason, it's being removed. A prefix is possible in General Discussion, but we'll have to see. It's also fairly natural to, for some reason, feel outrage at us removing this "oh-so-useful section", even though it's almost never used, and if it is, used properly. Not sure why, but I suppose it's human nature...same with when we've done any moves. There's really no redeeming quality to this section, at all. It can easily be put into General Discussion, and there it will go.
Could you at least bring some of the top threads in debate over to the General Chat section so it wont have to be started over from the beginning. I've never posted in the debate section but i know this question will arise sooner or later. Also, fyi, im a masterdebater
There are some debates here that I agree should be gone. But some debates I think should be moved to General, instead of deleted with the entire forum.
i think it makes sense to remove it, as half the things posted aren't debates anyway. debates can come about naturally in any discussion forum. i see no problem with it and I am a cunning linguist
I can move some threads, if I'm told which ones specifically. When it's moved to General Discussion, new posts will be infracted if they're not up to normal standards.
So does the rule that you can't show your signature in a debate still apply? I did it for awhile but nobody else does it so... Just wondering cause I don't want to get infracted when it moves to general.
There is actually a rule in this forum that no-one follows: Do not show your signature. Anyway, the only long-term debates I saw that didn't break the rules were those involving religion and beliefs. Most ended ultimately in, well not flaming, so much as people trying to change others' beliefs. Tell me if I'm wrong, the last time I checked was several months ago, but I doubt much changed. I'm saying go ahead: delete it.
Bon voyage, Debate Forum. We won't miss most of you. At least, I won't. I did start a decently popular debate, but the information got past my league, and I haven't bothered to check on it.
http://www.forgehub.com/forum/debates/95491-disturbingly-lifelike-animate-inanimate-objects.html Can you move this to General Chat. And can you not delete this post.
