Vanguard, Soldier, Sentinel depends a lot on what difficulty you're on. On Normal I found a Vanguard to be amazingly fun, definitely the best class for badassery and irresponsible behavior. Replaying the same character on Hardcore difficulty, I found that all enemies had shielding or armor of some kind that negated my powers, and enemies' bullets hurt too much for me to risk using Charge. On Insanity I switched to Infiltrator and it was way easier to do Infiltrator Insanity than Vanguard Hardcore.

Soldier seems to me that it would be pretty decent at any difficulty though, so thats the safest bet.

I am set to Normal difficulty. Thanks for all the replies, guys. Despite all your suggestions, it's safe to say for every gamer that it is extremely hard to pick a class.

Just finished up my Renegade playthrough. Next up is my Insanity playthrough. Maybe this time I'll actually have people die at the suicide mission, including myself.

After playing the final mission again, I can say that this game is far from having the best final boss battle, but it most definitely has the most epic and satisfying final mission of any game I've ever played.

I prefer the first games play style in combat over second, and it's use of vehicles, but the seconds story and ship controls plus further control of Shepard makes it worthwhile. I'm still on my first playthrough of second game, getting 100% of everything done. I'm an infiltrator and love it :D I usually have Medrin (w.e. Doc is) and Thane (He's just too kewl to not use). Snipers <3

Really? You prefer the combat in the first game more? I thought that was the game's weakest point overall.

A "blind runthrough" of ME2 on easy only took 14 hours to beat, and I saved more then half the characters, including Shepard. (I find that my skill in shooter games tends to go on or off randomly)

It's very easy to quickscope in ME2.

Re-completed it, with all side missions & loyalties (and nearly all upgrades).
I lost Jack, (Her loyalty disappeared after her argument with Miranda) and Zaeed (He led the second fire squad for me).
Jack and Zaeed were my least used team-mates anyway.
Although Jack's heavy shockwave can take out like, 20 husks in one blast.
My class was so cool, I picked the tech / combat class, and by the end, I had subs, assaults, snipers, hand cannons, and a load of heavies, I could have an invisibility cloak that upgraded damage, time slowed down when sniping, inferno blast (which kicked ass), crippling biot slam, and a bunch of different ammo and other abilities.

By the way, if you get the nuke launcher as your heavy weapon, be careful.
2/3 times, even with long range and full health, it just made me and my team dissolve on impact with the enemy. (about 50 metres away)

I'd completed Mass Effect 1 within the week, and I prefer combat and biotics in the first game, by far.

So about a week ago I beat the game for the first time on Veteran as a Paragon Engineer. It was a tough but rewarding class once you hit the higher levels, combat drone spamming never fails. Actually, the best part was probably cryo-freeze with increased splash radius. Husks swarms were gone in a matter of seconds. Now I'm on my second play through as a Renegade Soldier on Insanity, and while it is a challenge, the soldier class makes it much easier. I had a harder time taking scions out on Veteran than I do on Insanity. However, one quick thing about this difficulty.

Dammit Garrus, stop standing out in the open with your **** dangling between your thighs, and get your ass over to some cover.
    Set position marker
****ing Christ, I know I missed cover by a couple feet, but you don't have to stand on top of it like your soles are glued to the floor.
    Squad member incapacitated
    See, there you go... wonderful.
    Medi-Gel
You ungrateful little... what the hell are you doing?! I brought you back and you run straight for the harbinger. Take cover this time goddammit.
    Medi-Gel
Congrats, you made it cover, but now you're being rushed by collectors. Get up and... ****!
    Medi-Gel
**** you, just go hide in the damn building over there, you worthless piece of ****.
    Miranda is incapacitated
Since when was rushing the scion a good idea! Dammit!

Seriously, squad AI on Insanity is like fighting alongside a child with down-syndrome. I spend more time baby-sitting than fighting. Even if I do pick a safe bit of cover for them, they always manage to disobey orders and rush forward regardless.

If you have the Collector Particle Beam, it's pretty effective on Harbinger, and kills him quite quickly.

I was going through Insanity as an Infiltrator up until about Horizon. After that, I saw some videos online of Sentinels with fully upgraded Assault armor. I restarted Insanity as a Sentinel and I'm enjoying it a lot more. Soldier is probably the easiest class to do it with, but I enjoy using powers as well.

    Impressive...

Yeah Squad AI can be pretty dense but at least they're not as bad as they were in ME1.

Anyhoo, overall, Combat is way more fun in ME2 than it was in ME1. I like how the classes actually feel different now. So far I've done Vanguard, Infiltrator and Soldier. Adept is next in line! I think I'll even try it on Insanity...!

Also, Harbinger is a pretty cool guy, he assumes direct control and doesn't afraid of anyt---ASSUMIMG DIRECT CONTROL!

must not look at thread to much ME2 spoilers... btw ME1 squad AI is ****ing retarded might as well use them as shields, distractions, or cover...

Oh and ME1 item system, wtf
*150 items able to be carried at one time*
took me an hour to clear out my inventory full of worthless upgrades which are automatically picked up.

But still the game is good

I have a question, now that Mass Effect 2 is out, is it still possible to get the pre-order content?

Will the pre-order content be available on the marketplace soon?

Im just a little upset at the fact that I missed my chance to get every single ME2 DLC for free. Those of you who were up the night should know what Im talking about...

The thread doesn't really contain any spoilers, but if there is, they'll be in tags.

    AI has improved.
    Item limit was stupid.
    They're not automatic?

    It's great.

Well, if you are talking about the Cerberus Network card, you can get that for free by buying the game new.

If you mean all the armors and extra weapons, they aren't available on the Marketplace at all and no plans have been set to ever release them. But don't worry, they hardly make any difference.

Warp/Reave is obviously the easiest to deal with the huge proportion of biotic/armored enemies compared to the relatively few shielded enemies on Insanity, but the game gives you plenty of options in your allies to deal with it. Zaeed's inferno grenade/concussive shot abilities work great, Garrus gets Concussive shot and Armor Piercing ammo, and as Shepherd you can pick up Warp Ammo or Reave yourself. Miranda's got overload and warp, so no matter what shield you're against she'll put a dent in it, plus giving your squad her damage bonus. Oh and Grunt's inferno ammo/concussive shot combo works fine against the armor/biotic barriers too. Those were the characters I swapped between in my games, plus occasionally Morinth because mind controlling the Collectors is just beastly, even though she doesn't have a handy barrier/armor breaker.

Not only that, but Grunt is invaluable when it comes to levels with husks. He can take so much damage from them without dying, his incendiary ammo is great for taking out their armor on Insanity, and he can do his charge which is great for any close range enemy.
