I have almost the EXACT same setup but I'm more of a stealth sniper with support tendencies if the team absolutely needs it.

I use the fact that they can see me on radar to my advantage, they chase me about thinking I'm absolutely blind about their whereabouts :D

I just find it genuinely fun to run around and kill people. I'm not saying that setting-up is a bad idea or that I avoid doing so. I'm just not a patient person. Maybe it's my ADD :p. I've also found I do poorly when being "stealthy".

lol at people thinking that sniper plays a specific role, snipers are just for kids who think they have super mad skillz because they can sit back and point and click.

I snipe because I like the satisfaction you get from killing someone with a sniper rifle.

I concur, you get a lot of pleasure from it.

But again, thats all i did in COD4.

All my classes are snipers besides my FAL :b

Oh yeah, did someone mention that the FAL doesn't need stopping power? Well, if nobody mentioned that fact, I did just now. It doesn't need stopping power.

I tried using the FAL in search and destroy with cold blooded, and it only took 3-4 shots to kill someone, which how many bullets you would put on someone anyways with stopping power. It takes a bit of getting used to though, and the FAL isn't exactly the best at close quarters for one who isn't skilled with semi-autos.

I usually find the points you bring up to be largely valid, but you are being really really biased here. While I dont usually snipe, I have been trying it lately and it has proven to be an effective technique. While I agree that sitting back and holding a single choke point with an intervention takes very little skill, defending a large area, or playing a more run'n gun style sniper takes a fair amount of skill. Plus the entire game is really point and click.

generally though people that would call themselves a sniper are pretty silly

Fun fact 2: FMJ adds range to every gun.

i know one true sniper. sargeantsarcasm. he showed me his different classes, they're all just variations of a sniper class. I don't know if he ever uses other guns, but usually he's just being mischievous in a gillie.

I snipe a lot of the time, but i hardly consider myself a sniper. I'm currently what i like to call an anti-noob bullshit hater player. I dont use noob tubes, heartbeat sensors, or akimbo shotguns because i cant stand bullshit. I use stopping power most of the time because it's the quickest way to take out the noobs.

Recently it's starting to fail, due to the abundance of toobers. It's only a matter of days before i relapse. All i do anymore is break even :(

I like using heartbeat sensors on my primary (usually intervention heartbeat sensor), and akimbo pistols (usually M9s or .44s) for my secondary. You switch to pistols so fast, it's crazy. It comes in handy when I fail at no scoping someone close and he notices me, the time it takes for him to turn around is the time it takes for me to switch to my akimbo M9s and put three in him.

Works wonders in search and destroy.

heartbeat sensors make life too easy and the game turns into a look for red dot minigame. When i use it I look at that goddamn blue screen more than the game itself. if im not challenging myself enough my skill goes down.

and i will never give into the tubes! NEVAR

you look at the screen more than the game? dude, lots of people have ninja! no wonder you get killed all the time. you have to look at the screen every time it winks, or updates, then move around and look at the game. i only use it in search and destroy in combination with silencer to have an awesome hunter-killer class.

Truth. Try a running class with a silenced EBR, you'll feel like a god. :)

I beg to differ. The stun gives away position, the smoke does exactly the opposite. you can use the smoke to go head on, flank them, or even go over-head. Stuns are more useful in sticky CQB situations, but with a sniper i hardly ever find myself in one of those.

    Smoke never works.

Whenever you go through a smokescreen, I've noticed somehow people still know where you are and still hit you, if they aren't just firing random bullets. (which is still effective)

If you use smoke properly, it does. . .

Take terminal for example, if you throw it down the passageway that goes into the plane from the building, then jump out one of the windows to the left, then run round and go up the plane ramp, I can guarantee some guy/s will be stood there waiting for the smoke to clear. Use smoke in confined places/alleyways and then flank, it almost always works.

I only used to use stuns but it seems like whenever I used it people were still able to at least somewhat spray while stunned. Now I use flash because it's way more annoying and it seems to blind people for a good amount of time.
