Derelict By Adelyss Recommended Players: 2-6 Recommended Gametypes: FFA Slayer, FFA King, Flag Rally After having great success in the remake of Prisoner, Adelyss decided to try his hand at another Halo CE recreation. The map Derelict captured his eye, as it was a map style of which Halo 3 greatly lacked. A tight, octagonal room creates an arena like feel that many maps from previous games in the series were famous for. Control of the top is both important and powerful, with the only paths up being teleporters. While the upper level may have a commanding advantage over the ground floor, the sight lines are thwarted by tactical pieces of cover. Broken walls, pillars and even the structure of the upper level itself provides cover to players on the ground. But even despite the upper level's height advantage, it's lack of covers puts players in a vulnerable position. This leads to either strategic team gameplay, or frantic free for all action, with players hopping up top for a powerup or line of site, then raining down upon the hectic ground play. A wide array of arsenal options give players much to choose from, yet remain almost perfectly consistent with Derelict's original weapon layout. Forged to near perfection, Adelyss' recreation of the Halo CE map is proportionate, proper and inventive. Creative use of items give the map it's character, while even the lighting effects are a near match. For those who never owned Halo CE or lacked the ability to play multiplayer, Adelyss' Derelict is a great rendition of the Halo classic. But it also provides a feeling a nostalgia for those of you who once waged war on this Forerunner battlefield. Wow, i was kind of worried that you guys weren't going to feature this, it has been a very long time. Other than that i think this may be best remake there is. Congrats Adelyss, you definitely deserved it
This is only getting a feature because Halo: CE's Derelict wasn't featured. =D I'm not 100% sold on this feature (yet). Only having two ways up to the top and easy escapability put me off a bit. I'm not stupid enough to write it off straight away and I will admit I haven't played it, but I have my doubts. Yes, I understand spawns will take you up and I do understand budget issues leading to it being unescapable, but it does take away from the competitive aspect - especially if a spawn decides if you are going to get the next sniper/OS/Camo. It's the weapons that spawn up top that make me worry about whether or not having just two teles or the hope of a spawn to get you up there (and Halo 3's teles are far from perfect). As far as a remake perspective goes, brilliant. The atmosphere is captured brilliantly and minor details are well transferred over. There really isn't much to say - the remake and aesthetic side is done quite well. I don't want to rule the map out completely, but theory-wise I could see some issues with true, serious competitive play. I also wonder if this could have been done at the top of the Crypt (easy to say now of course, not practically) - would have been very interesting and kept the indoor feel to it. Anyways, congrats. EDIT: Thankyou whichever moderator deleted my double post.
This looks fantastic. I've seen quite a few derelict remakes, but this one is nearly perfect. Fantastic job man, I can't wait to play on this. I loved it in Halo CE and I should love it again!
About time this map is featured. I've had this map on my hard drive since it was released on Forgehub and I doubt I will remove it anytime soon. Congratulations to Adelyss on a well deserving feature and for creating, in my opinion one of the best remakes of any map to date.
Absolutely fantastic remake. It stays true to the original almost entirely and it still work incedibly well with the tough transition from halo to halo 3. Congrats on the feature, I figured I'd see this here eventually.
I can't say I was too partial to Derelict in Halo:CE in the beginning. However, as time went on I began really enjoying Derelict. Then they made a supposed updated version for Halo 2, which really changed the whole feel of the map which I hated. Now, we have a Derelict thanks to you for Halo 3. Grats on the feature and your next challenge will be making climbable ladders in Halo 3. GO GO GO.
first map i ever played multiplayer halo CE on, which was like 8 years ago sweet remake, but makes me hat the look of sandbox objects more
Fantastic remake Adelyss, very accurate and you've captured the derelict feel brilliantly. Its slightly dark in places but plays solid and provides great gameplay and looks the real deal, massive well done.
The pic that pleased me the most on your original post was this one: It just shows how this map was just forged to perfection and better yet it plays incredibly well. Definitely one of my favorite maps released in the fall and definitely deserves this feature. Congrats Adelyss!
The map is actually not easily escapable it appears so though. There is only one way a person by himself can get out and it involves the top middle and doing some grenade jumping to the top of the lights..but its in a high traffic zone so making it out will be slim to none. As for the outer wall...I do suppose you could double jump off a team mate though being in the open once again its a risk you'd have to take. As for the two teles to the top of the map I'd like to point out this map is about control which is how most MLG maps are supposed to be designed (Even though this isn't a MLG map, its set up in the MLG mind) the maps top is the control point, if you were playing Team Slayer your team would want to control the top and if you do you usually win. As for FFA games you tend to spawn up top quite often so its not really an issue, though I'll admit there were some times when trying to get up was a pain but if you played smart you could get up just fine. Finally please remember this is mainly a FFA map so spawning next to the power weapons will usually give that player that did the advantage and its all about luck eh? You've brought back pain and frustration into my head, I did a lot of random strange measuring methods that I wouldn't know how to explain to get everything lined up and perfectly even like that. Though now that I take a look at the image I do realize how perfect I was at making the whole thing even. The only thing I would of liked to change was that some of the top paths to the middle were slightly crooked but I'm happy on how straight it came out Thanks all for the wonderful comments and I hope it brings back memories of CE.
YEEEEEEES! Thank god this got featured. I love this remake. Favorite of all time. PLayed this for HOURS in customs. congrats Adyless
I never got to try this out in the original Halo: CE. Didn't have live then. But I have seen the map and I can't believe how accurate it is in comparison to the original. I hope I can play some games on it soon because with all these reviews it sounds like it's as good as it plays. Maybe better. Congrats on another feature.
Wow this is probably the purest, and best remake I've ever seen. I've played quite a bit of Halo CE through XBC and I've always loved that map, but that method always lags a little, so I'm super excited to play this in Halo 3. Like seriously I want to marry you right now. (no ****)
This is just another case of somebody getting a feature because they are friends with staff. LOLOL! JK! Yeah, this map is pretty awesome, yet I had forgotten all about it since its so old, lol. Its about as close to the original as you can possibly get. Its pretty fun to play on too, so lets all bow down to the remake king Prism Block should have won the remake contest, had you finished in time, and now this. Whats next?
Great job. I love a well done remake and this is amazing. Prism Block is also one of my favorites. Thank you.
Man I used to love this map... brings back memories... I love this remake, it looks identical to the real Derelict!
