    Half Pit

    Brief Description:
The Pit with one side of the map completely blocked off. There are 2 Sniper Rifles one of which located at the traditional sniper spawn set up at a re-spawn rated of 90 seconds with 0 spare clips, and the other Sniper Rifle spawning in Mauler Room at 60 seconds with 0 spare clips. There is an OS set up on a 45 second re-spawn that is located at the standard MLG spawn, and an Active Camo positioned at the Rocket Launcher spawn at a 60 second re-spawn. A few other minor weapon placements is the Needler at Sword Bridge, The Power Drainer on the edge of Training, and a Shotgun placed in the Flag Room.

This map plays 1v1’s phenomenal and can also run 2v2’s and small 1-4 player FFA’s. There is almost no way of getting to the other side of the map and in fact, the only ways out of the map are so inconsistent and intractable that they aren’t even worth while. Despite some parts looking sloppy and out of place I can give you my guaranty that they are extremely even and well put together. Also, if you happen to notice any problems please feel free to let me know but anyways I don’t want to keep you waiting so here’s the pictures.

I am going to be up front and honest here...it looks terrible. I know how hard forging decent maps on pre-DLC can be and I can see you have put a lot of effort into this map. Try sticking with DLC maps for now.

    And you know this because...?

I've played the map and enjoyed it a good amount. I like the how the sniper is a powerful weapon to have, but yet not too overpowering against a flank, and can easily be countered with the starting BR. Weapons and spawns are reminiscent of Greenhouse, while the gameplay feels a little more spread out. It works quite well for a 1v1, though sometimes there feels like there's too many weapons and too many ways to run away (for example, I had a player going for a while between cuts and objective until I juked him with the cuts to plat jump, and assassinated him). However, this can be reconciled by the fact that the map is also meant to play free for all and 2v2. Since I haven't gotten a chance to try them yet, I can't comment on gameplay on those gametypes, but the 1v1 was well done.

its always nice to see pre dlc maps cropping up. i personally think you've done the best job possible considering the tools you have to work with. nice map and nice idea.

I used to play all kinds of "Half-Pit" variations for free for all when I was really into MLG. This seems like a good attempt. DLed.

I know this because I have tried making a map on Epitaph and High Ground and I did make a map on Sandtrap and The Pit

@ The map. I may have been a bit harsh, it was a nice idea it just didn't look good.

    Looks can be deceiving…

P.S. I’ll be updating this thread one more time in just a little bit.

No Pre-DLC map "looks good". There's no immovable objects to build random structures out of.

Nice concept here. I have a map I've made on The pit and also Last Resort. Hopefully i can get those posted, lol. in the 3rd pic down, it looks like players can get out. is that true?

I love seeing something PreDLC. I checked this out when you sent me a friend request, and though I havent played it, I have likes and dislikes.

Its a great idea and a fun map to make, but I hate Crate walls. But, thats all you have though so I cant say anything really. With our recent 1v1 tourney, I played around alot with the 2 sniper and 2 powerup setup. It can be fun but in a truly competitive game, One person can just circle around picking up all the sniper ammo and hold it down hardcore. Though the Camo works as a counter for that, it would still force some players to try for the Shotty and stick in the close quarters areas alot. It would be pretty tough to take out a good sniper with just a Needler or a Brute shot.

I think you were also going for that fast gameplay I guess, but it just seems that there are too many power weapons spawning way too fast. Even for a 1v1, yet with a 2v2 that could even be a bigger problem.

Its really not that bad. I just know we had these problems when setting up and testing the 1v1 maps for the tournament we had. It really is a cool idea with originality. Plus its hard to work with what resources you were given so I salute you for that. I wanna se what you can do on Sandbox or foundry.

    Looks pretty cool.

I also made an attempt at a half pit but only managed to make it like 90% unbreakable. It's very difficult with the pre-dlc items.

You can check it out here: Bungie.net : Halo 3 File Details

Lol, the first pic looks like it has a face on it, anyway, I like the look, seems you have done long hours to make this happen. My only problem is nades might slip through one of the cracks and screw up the barriers.

The only way a player can get out is if they jump up onto the yellow post and then destroy the gravitation lift, while all at the same time jumping in mid air over the wall. But fortunately this way of going about getting outside the map is so unpractable that it’s not even worth the time and will most likely in turn, only be detrimental to the idiot doing it. Also, sometimes boxes just randomly disappear when a player tampers with them which unfortunately there is nothing that I can do about that because that is just another of one of Bungie’s random problems. But thanks man for the concern, I appreciate it.

Well the weapon set for this map was leaning more to a casual play style than a competitive one. I will definitely upload another variant of this map that is a more competitive version and I’ll take out all those noob weapons. And also thanks for the criticism on how the power ups and power weapons can ruin the flow of game play in that particular way. And with that in mind I’ll probably make just a few dramatic changes to the time intervals on some of the power items, like perhaps try out the Active Camo on a two minute re-spawn. On the comment about how someone can camp hardcore with the Sniper Rifle, I’m going to have to disagree with you there just because of the fact that each Sniper Rifle only has four shots and if someone were to be controlling both of them in the “circular routine” that you mentioned, they would just be considered the player better at controlling the power weapons and therefore would be getting rewarded for doing so.

Lastly, I finished making this map quite some time ago and this is just a treat before I release my next big map which will be on Foundry.

All of the barriers are fortified and secured from front and back and because of this it’s almost well is basically impossible to knock them out of place. And when I finished the map I even took a Ghost and smashed into each of the walls about five to ten times so yes, despite how sloppy and sh**y the walls may look, they are quite secure and are pretty good in quality. Thanks for the feedback man.

Thank you to everyone for the feedback I will take it all into consideration, and to everyone else feel free to give me constructive criticism on how I can make this map run smoother.

have you seen what he did on avalanche??? I loved that map.

im putting this on my transfers, i have some ideas about breaking out of it, i'll edit in rendered proof if a can. I'll also check it out for 1v1, and possibly 2v2

    [edit]

i almost forgot to dl this, i made a promise to myself that i wouldnt post in a map thread w/o dling it.

    EDIT

there was a way out under the needler spawn, idk if it was a one time thing but i ended the game and started a new one and it happened both times. One of the generaters had fallen out of place, and i was able to grab a camo and a custom powerup.
when i do a super edit that'll be for gameplay.

    Update:

    Map Variants:
    Half Pit
    Half Pit HC
    Half Pit 1v1

I added two additional map variants for Half Pit one of which designed with a competitive edge in mind and the other being designed for 1v1’s. For the regular “Half Pit” I added a Magnum on a 60 second re-spawn with 2 spare clips at Sword Room Window. I also changed the Active Camo re-spawn rate to 90 seconds. On “Half Pit HC” the only real difference in change besides what’s mentioned above is I replaced the Shotgun with a Plasma Pistol set to a 120 second re-spawn, and I took out some of the other nooby items including: Power Drainer, Needler, and Brute Shot.
For the 1v1 variant I made some drastic changes in order to make the play style more sufficient. I swapped the Camo with a Custom set on a 45 second re-spawn and re-positioned the Camo in Mauler Room. I re-positioned both Sniper Rifles; one located at Green Box on a re-spawn rate set to never with 0 spare clips, and the other Sniper Rifle placed at Sword Room Window set to a re-spawn rate of 90 seconds with 0 spare clips as well. Some of the more minor changes include: the Plasma Pistol being re-positioned at S3, The Plasma Grenades at S3 being re-set to a different re-spawn rate of 60 seconds, a single Plasma Grenade being placed at Br 1 to a re-spawn rate of 45 seconds, and finally the two Frag Grenades that were set beside the crate outside of Sword Room were re-positioned below the Sword Bridge.

I've not played this map, but just a couple of things as a heads up: I'd say it's worth editing the descriptions of the new versions in to the bottom of the OP, it's a useful description and people may not see it on the second page.

Also, since you've used Custom Powerups in place of Overshields, I'm guessing you intend the use of a custom gametype to ensure that the CPU isn't just a speed boost as it is by default. I'd say it's worth whipping up some accompanying gametypes for people to download alongside the map(s), all you'd realistically have to change from the default is the CPU settings, but you could also toy around with other things to make matching gametypes for each version if you felt that it would compliment it.

Just going to say your pictures aren't working on MLGPro. I would comment on that thread aswell, but I don't want to bump it.

I played it with the MLG 1v1 Forge gametype (which is what I assume this was built with in mind), but you raise a good point.

    This doesn't make any sense.
