hey guys, heres my entry for the wonders of the world contest.

pic numero 2, now with arches. (updated)
its a start, but its no where near finished, tell me what you think so far!
in case you havent noticed, it is the taj mahal.
    here is a comparison pic, in case you dont know what it looks like;

unfortunately, i will not be able to have all those alcoves along the side, as it would take way over the object limit to make it to such a scale as to be able to do it.[IMG]

Lol. That much done already. And kudos to the name, it's a winner! Keep up the good work, and don't get lazy. That's the worst thing you could do.

    not bad. digging the name.
I was thinking of entering into the comp but I don't not have anywhere near enough patience to forge something.

Have you done any scale research? It looks a little small to me, though I could be wrong. Being realistically to-scale along with aesthetic talent will be some important deciding factors probably.

Yup, definitely make sure the map is a good size. I started mine and got quite far after a couple hours of work and made it too big, have to start all over again :|

Well you further than me. I think I got through a flight of stairs :/

And to make it proportinate is seriously hard even with OLN and all that with the complexity of all these structures. I look forward to every contest map though, I think it'll be a close competition. :)

small like height wise? because the taj itself will be 3x what it is so far, with the dome.
and the pillars/columns will be double or triple what they are now.

It's starting to look good, but it looks weird right now. The finished product will obviously look better.

yeah, that may just be the recent pic, im in the process of uploading a new one though, i will most likely announce it :p
    *EDIT*
there, a new pic #2 is up, this one really makes it look like less of a pile of garb, and more of an aesthetic peice.

You've left out some of the arches but it still looks pretty good.

It's looking good so far. What objects did you use to make those two cylinders at either end? They look sexy :D

columns lol, and i have two walls on to of each.
yeah, to do those arches, id have to make the entire thing ginormous, which go over almost every single limit there is, befor i got 2/3rds finnished.

Well, just in general. Look at the scale comparison. 1/4 scale or whatnot is fine, but at the moment it looks kind of off to me at least...use people in real pictures as a reference scale wise, or measurements if you can find them. Unless you're building the inside where you need the items, I think you should really think about the environment you're going to have when the judges spawn in, aesthetic quality, and scale (obviously you can't do 1/1, but having everything equally scaled in comparison to the player so that you get the same 'feel')

No because you could small blocks I have an arch that's barely big enough for a spartan to fit under.

Scale is a part of accuracy, no? Getting the right feel to the map would be what differentiates a great map from a good map. Now, obviously you can't be expected to do 1/1 scale, but if you have a specific scale and you work with it effectively to get the right atmosphere, that will help your map much more than mindlessly ghost merging boxes.
