Any Canadian's here? Yeah? Kay, did you watch the Grey Cup? Final Score: SSK 27, MTL 28. I'm a full hearted Saskatchewan fan, and we stuck by them until the end. But that was such a heart breaking loss. The 13th man really did make all the difference. What did you think of it? http://www.torontosun.com/sports/football/2009/11/29/11974496.html http://www.leaderpost.com/Alouettes+Grey/2283190/story.html
Is that like the CFL's superbowl basically? I was reading an article on it (here: Rider Nation roar silenced by loss | Football | Sports | Toronto Sun) and it sounds like it was a heartbreaking loss. I'm in Ireland right now but I've always been a NY sports fan like Yankees and Giants so this has been a good few years in sports for my teams!
That's basically what it is, yes. It was such a heart breaking loss, because here in Saskatchewan, we call our fan's the "13th Man". And our saying goes "The 13th man makes all the difference" Because of our rules, we have 12 people on the field, unlike the NFL's 11... So when we lost to a Too Many Men call... It really killed us. Especially the come back.
Damn up 17-3 at half time? That is a real tough lead to lose especially in the Championship. Football championships are so much more exciting then baseball or hockey because it is just one game that decides it all unlike 7 where you can lose 3 and still come back and win...
I agree. And especially the fact that we were the underdogs coming into it, and that we were doing that well against the best team in the league for the last few years. They may not have made it to the cup all those years, but they still played like the best. And really, major loss for Saskatchewan. It's not just the province that felt it. We literally have green in every corner of this nation. We have green in Iraq, New York, China, and Africa. There weren't just 1,000,000 sad Saskatchewanees, but rather millions more. And, it would have been our 4th cup ever.
Haha you got me researching this team. Apparently they are 3-14 now in Grey Cup appearences. That is kind of pathetic. But they did win it in 2007! And there have been so many more Grey Cups than Superbowls and I didn't even know what Canadian football was like until now. Hmmm, I guess I'm just oblivious to the world around me...
Quick Fact: Canadian's invented the game of Football in North America. They called it football because they challenged the US into a game of it. America thought they challenged them to Soccer, and prepared their team for that. But yeah. Sask is basically the only team to have not won it like 10 times. But, we do have the best fans in the world.
http://www.metronews.ca/edmonton/sp...ve-calgary-dejected-as-alouettes-win-grey-cup True that, I just read this article and the Sask fans seem so optimistic and enthusiastic about the team. Have you been to some games and felt the atmosphere. I went to a recent Yankees vs. Redsox game and the atmosphere was INSANE and so much fun.
Season Tickets baby. Over the past 3 years, ever since we won the Cup in 2007 the stadium was basically sold out. That's over 28,000 people. All of them cheering for the riders basically. And, I believe that from 2007-half way through 2008 we had sold out. So that's a good 14 or something games sold out consecutively. And when the Stampeders come to town... That stadium gets wild.
