STREETS OF RED By Sourdauer >DownloaD< Description: Ghost and Warthogs battle for supremecy in these crowded city streets. The map: the map is pretty much as the description says: a urban style map with heavy lines of sight complete with a ghost and warthog. The map is based around 2 opposing bases, each with its strengths and weaknesses. It supports all gametypes save CTF, and really works well for multi-team, which is what i forged it for in the first place. Gameplay: The gameplay for this can really vary. it works equally well for a round of fiesta as it does for team battle rifles, and depending on the players playing on it the mood can range from extremely lax to incredibly hardcore. Vehicles: one major thing i wanted to include in this map were a range of vehicles. i wanted to create a map that lended tward close contact between vehicles and infantry. In order to be successfull with the warthog or ghost you really need to know what you're doing on this map- the streets narrow, and there are a lot of plasma pistols + sticky grenades that players can use to usurp your advantage. Vehicles 1 Ghost 1 Warthog 2 Mongoose Weapons 2 smg 1 needler 1 plasma turret 1 rockets 1 shotgun 2 plasma pistols 2 battle rifles 1 carbine Other things 1 ovr shield 1 active camo 1 regenerator 6 plasma grenades 4 frags Pics (will have moar soon) Thanks! vVv >>Download<< ^^^
This is the kind of map that I'd love to see more of: A focus on vehicular combat, but in an environment comfortable for the average player. It's difficult to do well, but the reward is great. The map is very well-forged: You've made good use of various forging techniques to give Streets of Red a very unique look. My only complaint is that the sight-lines seem a little too open in places, particularly around the center corridor/road. If the map is too exposed, it'd become easy for a pair of players in the Warthog to dominate the map. With that in mind, perhaps some of the resources placed into that lovely stash of vehicles in the corner could be reallocated into adding cover. Great map! -=Moxus=-
What's the highest point on the map? Because I see that the focus is the "streets" created but with warthogs and rockets, this open space could cause unbalanced gameplay. I just need to see more pics.
The streets idea really helps keep vehicles from dominating because their realm is confined much more so than people who can jump in and out of the road at will. Yet the weapons seem a bit stingy. It seems even guardian might have more weapons. And WTF no grenades you make such a great map and dont even take the time to place grenades you have got to be kidding me!!!
There are stickies if you read closely. He said "...the streets narrow, and there are a lot of plasma pistols + sticky grenades that players can use to usurp your advantage." Oh yeah, and not to mention it's on the weapons list! It seems pretty balanced, definitely has a lot of urban structures to blend in. A tad more cover on the structures could help like in the last pic on the right side. There is absolutely no cover on the top. Otherwise I don't know why people are calling it open. Vehicles need some room to drive.
This is certainly true, and there is plenty of room to drive. However, the sight-lines in parts of the map seem, at least to me, too open. Therefore, it might be useful to put additional cover on the buildings, or put objects in or over the map to break up sight-lines. -=Moxus=- P.S. I feel that I may have miscommunicated my "open" comment. Therefore, I have clarified my above post.
about the openness, it is a bit open near the back of pic2, but i only did that because otherwise, the warthog has a tough time getting out of the garage. im thinking about revamping it in the v2. if anyone wants to help test that would be phenomenal. EDIT: more pix
I downloaded and played a 3 person ffa on this; me and my friends had a blast. The vehicles were not over powering, and no one seemed a dominate. The one thing I will say is that it seemed the plasma cannon spawned rather quickly; it seemed that every time one of us spawned over there, the turret was there. Anyway, thanks for sharing your map, it provided me with a good bit of fun. Plus, I won 25 to 24 to 18
