For the first time in 3 years, my computer has malware. I am planning to reinstall it all over again, and since I am going to uninstall it. I needed some opinions on what OS I should use next. If you need my specs:

    4gb RAM
    500gb HDD
    Nvidia GeForce 9600GT Graphics Card
    Nvidia EVGA i680 SLI Motherboard
    3.00 ghz Core Duo (each)

I was thinking about Windows 7. I currently have Windows XP Ultimate by Johnny.

Umm if you a vista h8er then 7 is your best bet, xp is actuall really shitty. Newho can you run OSX? Can you run 64 bit? x34?

i can run x64. When I had vista installed it was 64 bit. I took vista off immediately because overall Vista's security was great, but the performance was not as great at XP's. I thought i'd use that 4gb of ram at xp then..
I didn't install the 64bit xp on my computer since there is noting compatible with it, so I stuck with x32.

Win7 feels like XP in a Vista skin to me. Take that for what it's worth. I'd say go with Win7.

Get a hackintosh. I'm assuming you are on a pc because of XP (though you might be crazy and have installed windows for some bizarre reason). Hackintosh is great. No viruses and its fast. Btw, hackintosh is just another name for OSX on a PC.

I recently installed 7 on my computer. It runs great and there are zero compatibility issues (and I play games that are meant to run on Win 98!).

If you want to save money its Ubuntu or bust. If you want to get rid of that virus and keep it gone you might want to avoid 7. However, I've never had any virus problems with any windows machine. Smart browsing and a well protected system will ensure clear skys.

Malware Bytes, Avast! Anti-virus, windows defender, and ad-aware are all programs I use.
