Hmm, I also heard from one of my friends that "Out of hundreds of Nostradamus' prophecies, only a few actually came true."

I guess people are in it for the money and fame, I guess.

That's what's interesting about all of it. We can start a prophecy and say it's based on religious science, then write a book about it and get millions of followers. We would be rich for doing nothing of value.

This is why alot of Nostradamus' prophecies 'came true'.
    1) There were so many, 1 was bound to be true.
    2) They're extremely vague.

The world actually did end in 2000 when all the earth's nuclear devices simultaneously malfunctioned and detonated. You, Norlinsky, are living in a world of ghosts and illusions, a reality conjured up by your own incorporeal mind. On some level your disembodied consciousness recognizes this and is manifesting that truth through my post.

No, you just stepped off of a curb and got hit by a truck... And there's a guy waiting for you on top of that buliding across the street, he wants you to play trumpet for him.

*psst, this is the part where you realize that everyone else is a ghost and you are still alive!*

Did you read the article? Believing that, with no rational thought, that we are all going to die on a specific date is idiotic. If you believe that, you are just an idiot. Plain and simple.

People desperately want to believe that they're living at the end of history because they think that it'll give their lives some kind of special meaning and significance. It's also difficult to be honest with yourself and recognize that people in the future are going to be smarter, healthier and generally much better off than you. The realization that you just happen to have been born in this shitty century is a tough one to reconcile, the thought of eventually becoming a relatively primitive part of the unimaginably huge tapestry of history kind of negates your entire existence (this is why people in the latter half of their life fear technology and never vote for progressive social change).

This is just a guess but I'm willing to bet that most Christians believe the rapture is going to happen in their lifetime. It's comforting to think that the end of your life is a scheduled event that adheres to some kind of nebulous rational order that's been divinely cast down by a cosmic authority. It's tough to contemplate death and deal with all the uneasy feelings and suffocating dread that inevitably follows.

The one thing I always hear said is that "you can tell we're in the end of times because of how sinfully people are living now." If you think people were better behaved in the past, you don't know history.

Meh, I don't take any interest in these stories. Even if they were true, theres no point dwelling on it as thats just a waste of time of which we supposedly don't have a lot left.

I read/ heard somewhere that over 50% beleive that Jesus' second coming will be during their lifetime... I really want to find someone who genuinely believes this, show them that they have absolutely no basis, and then bluntly state how naive and arrogant they are.

And you know the worst bit? The part that disturbs me the most, is how many MORE people will believe the world is going to end in 2012 after that shitty disaster movie comes out.

Perhaps you should make a public poll so after 2012 we can gloat. Normally, I don't approve of gloating, but if people have been explained in every possible way why the prediction is complete crap, they're not gullible, they're just unintelligent.

There's going to be news coverage and suicides and countdown timers and documentaries and books... all because these people were too stupid to listen.
