Every map in Halo 3 can be organized into 3 different categories: Human: -Blackout -Foundry -Ghost Town -High Ground -Last Resort -Longshore -Orbital -Rats Nest -Standoff -The Pit Forerunner: -Avalanche -Citadel -Cold Storage -Construct -Epitaph -Guardian -Isolation -Narrows -Sandbox -Sandtrap -Valhalla Covenant: -Assembly -Heretic -Snowbound These groups are based off the main features off the maps and the architecture within the map. Correct me if I'm wrong about any of the maps. Why did I write this up? I just thought it could help people in some way.
No, Isolation and Cold Storage are Flood themed. (CS is also forerunner) Avalanche, Valhalla, & Sandbox are forerunner themed. Sandtrap is Brute themed. Standoff is human themed. I have no idea where you got the "Environment" theme from.
I like the idea, thou as mentioned above your a bit off. Take out the Environment and you have a well divided groups. I would lean more towards a theme of the map. Forunner/Covy/Human/Flood. I am actually wondering more about how this idea could be used to organize the canvas for maps.
If you really don't want a flood category, put Isolation under Forerunner because it does have sentinels on it.
Really all you have to look at is. Does the map have a halo ring in the air? or the Ark? if so then walla its forerunner. I really wish we had more covenant themed maps i mean whats the deal only 3.
Only 2. Snowbound is Forerunner. Bungie.net : Snowbound: The Bungie Beta Guide : 5/15/2007 1:45 PM PDT
No it isn't. The architecture and design of Snowbound is similar to Heretic and Assembly so its Covenant. Yes some of the structures look foreunner but Im classifying it as Covenant (and Im sure people would agree with me)
Unfortunately, Bungie is not one of those people. But if you don't think the developer of the game should agree with the list, then so be it.
Actually the article you linked implied that the underground structure was Forerunner, but the two bases are Covenant in origin: It's far from conclusive, but it does kinda imply that the above ground structures are Covenant, or at least that the shield doors are, which does fit with their distinctive aesthetic compared to the rest of the structural work in the map, more similar to Covenant themed maps.
It is a Covy/Forerunner combination, both of you are right in this debate. I would side with Peg that it is Covy thou, simple so that we can have more Covy maps. Compare sandtrap with this idea. Since we see a phantom on the map of sandtrap we don't classify it as covy. So there for it is to the majority of a map what section it goes to.
Indeed, or if not the majority in simple terms then the most defining aspect of the map. For Snowbound, I'd say that the bases are more dominant in terms of their aesthetic and design being reflected in gameplay (1 way glass being a key example of Covenant aesthetic actually being a defined gameplay aspect) than down low, and the only real Forerunner influence is the back ramp to down low and the underpass where the Ghost/'Goose spawns, much less defining than bases imo.
Yeah i was gona say lol, i thought Snowbound was a covenant installation on a forerunner world. Hince why its purple not gray.
yeah snowbound is covenant. if you read the map description it refers to the covenant and the colonization thier or something alon those lines
I beleive that the Covenant used snowbound but I think the origin was Forerunner based because the Covenant used Forerunner technology. P.S. Don't flame me if I'm wrong, just a guess.
Heres a pretty good resource in my opinion: Human: Blackout Foundry Ghost Town High Ground Last Resort Longshore Orbital The Pit Rats Nest Standoff Forerunner: Avalanche Citadel Cold Storage Construct Epitaph Guardian Narrows Valhalla Covenant: Assembly Heretic Misc: Isolation – Forerunner. Strong flood influence. Sandbox – Unknown. Forerunner influence. Sandtrap – Unknown. Forerunner, Human, and Covenant influence. Snowbound – Forerunner. Strong Covenant influence.
Isolation - forerunner Sandbox - definitely forerunner Sandtrap - I guess that's debatable Snowbound - could be both but since there are hardly any covenant maps I'll leave it there. Also this thread seems to have created a massive debate about the origins of the maps.
