Avalanche Speed DOWNLOAD HERE Suggested # of Players: 8 (4 teams) Game Variant:Bungie's standard Rocket Race variant Description: Plain and simple. Rocket Race Speed variant created for Avalanche. Being an avid Rocket-Racer, I was unpleasantly surprised when I realized that the map wasn't set up for Rocket Race. So i set off to create my own. 5 destinations a side, ranging from in front of each base to the near-edge of the cliff (yes you may get blown off the map by these 2 destinations). I call those the Splash zones. One central territory at the middle of the U-turn starts the match. Destinations range from side to side, high and low on each side, and with Avalanche's slight asymmetry it makes each side play differently and keeps the game from getting repetitive. The middle passage in between the 2 sides comes in very handy and effectively cuts the distance between destinations in half in many cases, but can be a traffic jam at times, so proceed with caution. Note: JUICY FX added. Works really well on Avalanche. Looks super sexy Below are some screenshots of the destination locations, and a couple action shots to boot. Starting points, Valhalla style (2 teams per base). First destination. Some of the side destinations, 4 per side. me and light were the first two kills... it was driver error and i was the driver but map is super fun definitely being d/ling cant wait for the trick one. man cannon madness!!
Pfft, take all the fun out of my mad driving skillz lol. It's a fun map folks and decently difficult. and hope some lucky fool doesn't blast you off the edge lol.
your right i'm just jealous that i've never gotten a killtacular in rocket race. but im guessing its gonna be more now with avalanche and all its precarious cliffs
I got a double kill over the edge while this map was still in testing. I think I killed Lights and Bnasty.
Haha yes that is quite possible. I got knocked off the edge a few times today! After testing and reviewing the films a bit, I decided to move the 2 destinations near the cliff a bit more inland. I moved them inward about 10-15m, give or take a bit. Too many people were dying. Believe me, getting knocked off the edge is still a very real threat, but it won't be happening 3-4 times a game anymore. I think the adjustment will yield maybe 1-2 teams getting knocked off a game. Thanks to all those who helped me test, fix spawns and adjust destination placement, re-test... It was all a blast, and we will have many more games to come on this soon.
Sorry about running up to you team and saying all that random **** on that Ghost Town game today. I understand why you booted me. Yeah, it was weird when all the spawn points kept appearing in forge.
Looks great. Definitely looking forward to trying this out. Next time your getting a game going, I want in. As a fellow rocket race fan, I too am upset that they're slacking on putting them in MM. As far as I could tell, they didn't create Heroic tracks and put them in the playlist until they were free, which sucked. Is that correct - and there are no Legendary maps in the rocket race playlist yet? Grrr.
Incredible That's the word that comes to mind when we tested this last night.. I too love Rocket Race as you already know.. Avalanche needs to be part of the MM playlist for Rocket Race and soon.. On a side note, When Camel Assassyn was driving me around in one of those games, I blasted someone off the cliff from the ramp leading up to the bridge destination.. I was very proud of myself, and baffled Camel at the same time.. It was great!
Yeh I don't think I ever got a Heroic RR before the maps were free.. I'd see them in Doubles or TS from time to time, but never RR. I'm hopin they can fix that soon, itd be awesome if it got tested by a Bungie employee randomly and it was enjoyed so much that it ends up being the official Avalanche Speed... what an honor. Its definitely the first one made... I checked. And I can only improve upon it Wow. Can i get a clip of that? That's pure awesomeness. Thats quite a ways to fly through the air haha. I'll start working on a trick map today

Consider it done! When I get home you will have a new "Halo 3 Clip" I watched it about 40 times last night, Along with another clip that I won't tell you about.. Just send it to you.. let me just say, It's classic.
For a rocket race fan, this map is a keeper. After playing this, I gotta say this should just go right into the Rocket Race playlist... Well done. All the goal placements seemed good, and the race to the first one is perfect. The only problem I had was pretty minor. One time the active goal moved from the center to one of the ones nearest the edge, and it seemed a little too close to the previous goal with no obstacles in between. But I like the ones that are semi-near the edge and wouldn't want to move them drastically.
I cannot wait until there is a race version of this map in matchmaking! Hopefully it's yours we'll see in there! Personally I'm not a fan of stunt maps, because people usually end up getting off their mongooses to reach some of the points, so try to make it cheat proof if you can.
