    its amazing :D
I think its by far the best RTS out. Although it does base the gameplay entirely on units (i.e. you cant just build turrets all teh way into an enemy base to keep constant pressure on them) but the units have been mastered. It can be a very fair game, and at the start of the matches the game tilts in the covenant favour because of leaders, but after about 15 minutes of gameplay it easily tilts towards the unsc.

You should check out a few clips on youtube.

If you like Halo and if you like RTSs, you will want to buy this game. It is bassically the greatest RTS of all time, except maybe starcraft. There's some slightly demanding controls to remember like is it RB or LB to select all? Everything else is fun but campaign can get hard, try Normal first.

I liked it for the most part, yet the online stinks... The only bad parts is how the characters sound like complete tools and how online was ruined due to "warthog rushing" making gameplay bad. Everyone just makes 500 warthogs (because you can make 40 of them and they are powerful and cheap) and the game is over in about 5 minutes...

I think some of the answers are very biased towards halo games in general. Simply adding Halo to anything does not make it great. This game is fun, but really, if you want a good console RTS, i'd get Red Alert 3 instead, it's a much more in depth RTS.

Halo Wars was designed so the average halo player could be good at it, and is therefore very simple. There are very few units, and no buildings outside of designated zones. So games come down to units and get repetitive fast (No sneaky bases hiding around or flanking the enemy and setting up a barracks there).

The game has great controls for a console RTS, but really, it's just too simple for me. If you like such RTS games and Command and Conquer, this may satisfy you for a few days, but it just doesn't have the gameplay value that you find in Red Alert style games.

He has a point. Halo Wars isnt a very well made RTS compared to Starcraft, Age of Empires, etc.. because it is incredibly simple, the compact maps and the inability to build your own buildings unless on a pad...

I think halo wars is awesome but could be so much better if were to come out on PC, but i don't think it is. I stopped playing online because games were taking 2hours+ to finish

Is it an amazing console RTS, yes it is. If you have a computer though, I'd go with any RTS on the computer over the console anyday.

I still have fun playing halo wars.
Even though not many people like it, I have fun almost every time I play it online.

There have been 3 title updates, it's far more balanced now, in fact I think it's a bit unfair on anders (the normal gauss/hawk rusher)

damn this is a much harder choice then i thought it was gonna be. i dont like that people keep saying its a simplified rts and i dont like people saying its 1 sided.

is it really that 1 sided or are you guys exaggerating, and is it really THAT simplified?

My favorite genre is RTS. In fact, probably 80% of my PC gaming is RTS's, and I PC game a LOT. Now I tried Halo Wars with decent expectations, and its great. For a console RTS, it can't be much better. If the game were complex, it wouldn't function well at all for the console, but I think ensemble had done a brilliant job making a simple, albeit functional RTS for the console. People complain about the lack of resemblance to a PC RTS or lack of options and how its generally too simple but they forget to remember that consoles don't have the same ability as PC's to quickly micro manage. I recommend the game, its fun. I can't speak much for the online player base, as I don't know how many people play it nowadays, but its a good game regardless.

Agreed, the simplicity of the game is probably the best thing about it. Dedicated bases, prevent people building turrets all the way up to the enemies base (old Red Alert Strategy) And it makes you think about whats most important at first.

I find its a very fast paced game with a wide choice of strategies. Your strategy can depend upon what building you build first, which can sometimes make you completely ready and upgraded in 15 minutes with a full army out. Or you could still be researching 20 minutes into the game with only a few units.
The strategies in the first 10 minutes consist of building the right buildings first and scouting the enemy bases. Then later consist of unit v unit battles and finding out what works best against your enemies.

Warthog rushing did **** the game up, but they brought out patches that helped prevent the warthog rushing. (you used to be able to have a full squad of gauss hogs by 5 minutes, now the most you could have is 6) They slowed the upgrade process, they also weakened the leaders slightly to prevent leader rushing.

Overall, i didnt like C&C3.. i'm just getting bored with those games, theres nothing new about them. HW on the other hand, is a whole new type of Console RTS. It plays really well, and its really simple.
