Ok, heres the deal. I bought a pc off a mate not long ago and i've done a few upgrades of my own. Atm it runs a pirated version of Vista 32bit. Its activated with a fake key, and microsoft know of this as they keep pestering me to buy a genuine key. Since that first time, my computers performance has gone downhill. IE always runs slow, I cant multitask efficiently at all anymore. And when im running AMD Phenom 9650 x4 @ 2.3ghz i shouldnt be having any problems, but I am..

So I wanted Windows 7 anyway but looking at the prices, the clean install version is a hefty £149.00 which is very steep compared to the upgrade package at £75.00 (or £67.99 on play.com atm)

All i want to know really is, can i use the upgrade package on a pirated vista version? And can i upgrade from 32bit to 64bit on the upgrade disk? or will it only allow me to have the 32 bit still?

I've been looking on the web and so far, its not been very successful.

    Thanks in advance.

Or maybe you could learn how to pirate correctly and just learn that because you have a fake key doesn't necessarily mean that it'll do anything to your system.

I've been running a pirated version of XP, and the whole "Genuine Windows" thing came up, but a couple of google searches and I removed it.

So try pirating better next time. Or install Linux and then buy Windows 7.

yeah ive been contemplating that.. but the linux o.s counts as you needing to buy the full wack installation CD.

Also.. i didnt pirate this. I bought it with a preloaded Pirate key on it.. Id rather have a genuine copy.

Yeah, well dont have anything pirated if you're not willing to go the whole way. Windows 7 is absolutely awesome and runs faster than any operating system ive used before. You definitely should get it, and get it new. Dont upgrade from a pirated version or you'll run into some problems. I'm currently running a pirated version of windows 7 but i am receiving a legitimate copy of it free from HP because i bought my HP computer after June/July.

You should have preordered windows 7. It was only 50$ to preorder. Anyways, just buy the legit version.

Honestly, I can't help you. Downloading pirated content always has its drawbacks. I don't mean to sound like a goody-goody, but honestly, buy the real key already. That seems to be the only direction you can head in for improvement.

No dun buy Vista. Its probably slow because Vista sucks. Its a waste of money. I went straight from XP to 7. Buy legit 7 key and use.
