In the intro of ODST, upon meeting Mickey, Dutch, Romeo and the Rookie, Dare turns to Buck and says "Replacements?". Buck replied with "In a war like this, you're bound to have them" or something to that effect.

Then while on the last mission, Buck says something like "Its Reach all over again!". Dare screams "We survived Reach, and we're gonna survive this!".

Therefore, Im lead to the conclusion that HALO:Reach will revolve around Buck and Dare with their former squad. However, I never read the book, so I could be horrifically incorrect. Its an interest thought though.

Agreed, and I actually think the Rookie is gonna be in it too. I remember a line somewhat to the effect of Romeo saying "Where'd you get the 6th?", and Buck explained to him that he survived Reach.

I might be wrong, but I clearly recall the Rookie surviving something.

I think its been stated that master chief and a group of spartans are the main characters, however buck and dare probably do make appearances in the game just to tie in the storylines together even more.

Bungie has stated that Buck might appear in Reach. Dare is part of the Office of Naval Intelligence and the ONI CASTLE Base was on Reach, and the planet itself was basically the UNSC headquarters and where a majority of their ships were made so it would make sense that she be a part of it as well. Them being the main characters seems unlikely because the main story behind Reach is that it was the place where the Spartan II's practically grew up and the novel is heavily based around the Spartans and their early life as well as the Battle itself.

The Rookie was a part of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Force (part of a Rapid Offensive Picket) during the Battle of New Jerusalem in the Cygnus System. Every member, except for The Rookie, was killed during the battle. He was then transferred to the squad of ODST's lead by Buck.

Well if the stories are anything to go off of the spartans work as a team.

John's the only one that really works solo.

The book "The Fall of Reach" Isn't really about reach at all. Maybe 10-20 pages dedicated to the actual battle. However, in the book placed between the events of Halo and Halo 2, the book goes into detail of what actualy happened on reach, and happens after the master chief flees w/ captain keyes. That part of the book is about what happens to the spartans on reach, ( 6 or 7 main ones if I remeber correctly) and includes a prototype Br. :D

If Reach is anything like the book, and with the outline of characters of the Reach image.
I think you get to play as other spartans and Buck and Dare will probably be like Johnson (a side character).

Also, Ghosts of Onyx sort of talks about Reach...i think.

Johnson was on the Space Dock that was used as a ship shield during the orbital battle, and was picked up by the chief while he was trying to destory the Navagational Data accidentaly left behind on the dock. We may however get to meet C.P.O Mendez, even badasser than Johnson ( he trains the spartans with Hasely)

Yeah, I was just saying in Reach Buck and Dare would be a Johnson like character maybe. But yeah Mendez, pretty awesome.

John has to work solo, remember in halo (all of them) he believes that his whole squad died on reach. But we know that they didn't. Reach will most likely be some of the missions from the book and of course the battle for reach, it will revolve around John and his squad. But there are other spartan squads that fight against the covenant on reach. Buck since being an odst will probably be in it as well. And as explained the ONI headquarters is (underground) on Reach. So i would expect dare, but i would have to say that buck and dare may be the side story that bungie incorperates into the game. Or maybe just 1 of many side stories that you unlock via the campaign.

There will be roughly a thousand spartans give or take, so they will be the best weapon against the covenant on that planet, therefor there are bound to be quite a few seen alive and fighting.

The reach book tells what happened from a past perspective I believe, this will be taking place during it though so I highly doubt that just the stuff mentioned in the book will be used... In fact I'm having doubts it will be used at all, I think they're going to have a lot new stuff that gives more hints at the bigger picture like halo ce did.

I say this because I remember the monitor saying that he was glad to see some forerunners survived on the shield worlds to reproduce. (Hinting that the forerunners were either what humans evolved from, or humans) Other subtle things like this probably be done to convey the covenants great journey, but one thing is for certain...

    There will be NO flood

This can be proven purely by the fact that the flood wasn't discovered until the events of halo ce.

And to the statement about dare and buck, I don't think they will even play as much a role as johnson in the game, more likely than not they will be a character that just makes one appearance (buck) dare may play a larger role than buck but at the most one like the role of miranda keyes.

Where did you get a thousand spartans? 150 were chosen, but was cut in half to 75. Only 35 made it through augmentation.

Actually in Halo Wars, the first time you see the Flood is set in 2531. Halo CE takes place in 2552.

I was just about to say that lol. But really Reach seems to me to be more biased towards the covenant and human conflict not the human flood one. And about the spartans he is correct there weren't that many but they were more than enough to handle the covenant. Aka why the covie's glassed Reach. I imagine that bungie will do what ever it wants meaning, they won't follow the book and probably put more emphasis on the battle for Reach than the book did. Who knows though maybe you get to play as Kelly and get knocked out by Hasely lol.

Obviously my number was an exaggeration but you get my point that there will be a bunch of spartans. Halo wars was not made by bungie therefor it may be presenting a time frame they didn't want it to be present in, as halo ce is the first time that both races confront the flood (in games made by bungie) now, I may be wrong because I haven't read any of the books but I'm pretty much certain it will be contained to just covenant vs. Unsc, and maybe the rebel humans.
