Well, I know there are some photographers around FH. I'm trying to decide on a beginner's camera, and I don't want to get a crappy point and shoot so this is the only choice I have for the amount of money I can spend.

    FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black - S1500

Would anyone say this is a good beginners?

I have that camera, love it.

But I do only use it for photos of friends, family, ect. not really for anything like what I think you want.

it does ok, as long as your actually close and not just zoomed in...However, I warn you. You buy that one, two weeks later theres a better one for 10 dollars more.

thats always how it is. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and buy something.

Any camera really will do. Just get above like 5MP. 10 is most certainly fine. Its more about what you can do with the camera than what camera you have. Try some effects with short and long shutter times, macro shots with a foreground and a far backgrounds as well as maybe just some shots that look interesting to you. Just walk around a park or something and look for interesting shots. I took a photography class a few years ago so if you need anything, you can always ask me and i might be able to help you.

I have to say that I think this whole 'beginner camera' stuff is marketing bullshit. You'll take photos of the same things whether you have this camera or a Nikon DSLR. They all have the same 'auto' settings (landscape, night, people, objects, etc.) for those who don't know how to use a manual camera. The few differences are that the higher quality cameras have more features (which doesn't mean they're harder to use) and that they take higher quality photos. If you have the money and you want to do photography, get a good DSLR.

If you have the money to get a high end camera, get one, the learning curve is pretty much the same and they take amazing quality pictures. If I could get a Rebel I'd get one right now.

Mehhhh, it would be a pretty good beginners camera.
But, as whisper said, get a Nikon DSLR.

I have a Nikon D60 and i absolutely love the thing. Nikons have great reliability and have remarkable features. They might be a little bit pricier, but definitely worth it. Not to mention the many interchangeable lenses throughout the Nikons.

Oh and btw, if your choosing of Megapixel, dont. Megapixels really dont play a role with the quality of the camera photo. Mine is a 8.1 and its amazzzzzing :] Go above 6.5 fersure tho.

    Just to reiterate.
If anyone would like to give me the extra money, sweet, but I'm specifically asking about how good this camera is.

Seems pretty decent, I'm not all that familiar with fujifilms tho.
    Looks like a good buy.

I use a FujiFilm, a very similar if not same model as your planning on getting. They get the job done, but if your in a position to save up a bit, I say you do.
