**** all that. Learn violin then do this: YouTube - Amazing violin You will be the greatest guy since that guy.
I play piano, guitar, drums, and base. I started with piano. Piano, you can go a lot farther with it, but most people don't take it that far anyway, so the amount of learning you could have spent doing guitar to get good enough to play songs that people would recognize, takes a LOT longer for piano, but in the end I think sounds a bit better, because you can play both parts. Piano parts for songs are harder to learn than the guitar basically. So if you want to play songs people will recognize, it will be easy for guitar, hard for piano. So if you're going to get REALLY good, play piano, but if you just want a hobby, play guitar, because then you can at least play songs people will recognize in a fairly short amount of time. Drums are a different story. Some people just don't have that kick. Lessons are really a waste of money for them, because you can either keep a beat or not. A lot of people can keep a beat with their hands, but when they add the feet they can't. So people who want to play drums will be like "oh, i can keep a beat" until they realize that your feet and hands have to alternate, and then they can't. It's like rubbing your belly and patting your head times a thousand. Base is an instrument most guitarists learn after they've already learned guitar because it's so easy to switch. So if you're going to play base, learn to play guitar first.
I second that. But seriously, if you want to play rock, play the guitar. Or drums. Or bass. It doesn't matter, you're only doing this as a hobby, no need to overdo yourself. Get some dirt cheap, second-hand instrument, and learn. Or....violin^^
I've played piano for 11 years and love every bit of it. If you wanna get decently good, it only takes about a year of honest lessons. Then you can simply mess around and learn melodies and accompanying bass lines on your own. However, if you wanna get really good you'll want anywhere from 2-4 lessons to learn music theory and other advanced stuff. It's gonna be hard at first, but you can learn quickly if you just put a little effort into it. I'd say learn whatever interest you the most; don't let price be a factor. Because honestly, as with anything else you'll ever buy, the only thing that depends on price is quality. If you want something cheap and bland, you can get any of the four instruments you stated at relatively cheap prices.
To reiterate what most people said, just get a guitar. I know some nylon string guitars can be pretty cheap, just get that, if you still like the instrument play the death out of the cheap one then go grab a better one. I wouldn't go straight to steel string though, they are a little harder to learn on than nylon. Also if you want to be unique get a ****ing banjo, I heard those are crazy fun to play.
I ain't crazy, it is awesome. But a Harmonica would be great. Also, while we're posting examples... One of my favorite violinists, and for clear reason. To an extent, I enjoy his live sound way more than his recorded, because he accomplishes entire songs with only his violin most of the time, and a looping pedal. YouTube - Final Fantasy - Your Light Is Spent I've learned a couple of these lines on bass myself (note, not standup sadly), and while they are pretty simple to grasp for the most part, the groove is hard to master (something I haven't accomplished). Also, the experimental stuff he does at around the 3 minute mark (I think it is a little sooner) is remarkable. YouTube - indigo jam unit - Pirates PV Now for my latest musical instrument obsession... YouTube - Dante Bucci - Fanfare Must... have...
Thank god. Someone who speaks the truth. I love bass to death. I would suggest starting out on bass, at least.
That is one bamf list of instruments. Especially ukuleles, all my friends with guitars want a ukuleles. lol. I can play the French Horn lol. But I also mix for a band. That's a good way to get to hang with the band, but not have much commitment... and it's ****ing easy. Whatever instrument you pick, just get really good at it.
Let's see. learn them all. Multi-instrumentalism is a great thing. I can play piano, bass, guitar, sitar, and cello.
YouTube - ☺ One Man Band (Guitar + Bass + Piano) Playing the Guitar hurts my fingers!!! Devotion is the only way you will learn any instrument.
Drums. They're Easy, Trust Me i play them for three months and i'm already playing Dream Theater I'm Drummer in a Progressive Metal Band. And Progressive Metal pumps out some serious stuff dude In my opinion, Drums are easier just start out with like modest mouse or something then move up to blink-182 then some Heavy stuff like Dream Theater once you get good Easy for you to say. You're a Bassist yourself! in a metal band too!
I play drums, and you have no idea how much you have to spend on that ****. I recommend Bass. Guitar is WAY too overdone, and bass r taekz skittlez to lern.
Play the damn gong that way you can have a job (or volunteer) in a chinese parade and just be randomly hitting it with you're over sized mallet........ No play the guitar cause it's easy to learn, I learned in hmmm maybe like 3-6 weeks.
Don't listen to him, I've been taking guitar class, it's been 8 weeks and I've just started getting used to the 3rd string.
