Sandbox Vermilion

    With a little assistance from HEJT351, this map started as a "temple" (not very original, i know). But that's not how it turned out. The centerpiece is the temple inspired part of the map. We wanted a killball on the map, but not the whole of it, so we surrounded parts of it. Then I wanted something that was attachet to the centerpiece, so I came up with the idea of building a bridge. It turned out well, so we made another longer bridge. I felt like I wanted something base-ish for the team games. Thats when the attackers base was made. For the defenders I wanted something easier to defend, and preferably not an open base, so I made the tunnel. Then we needed to fill the open spaces, so we made a few random obstacles.

    The map is a fairly big free for all, or multiteam adapted map on the ground level of sandbox. It works with some of the team games too. I finished it quite some time ago, but I'm still proud of my work after lots of other younger maps. Forging isn't perfect, but it's good enough (I have seen worse maps on matchmaking). The map has got many differend heights, in other words, you'll not be too much on the ground. It also gives you the indoor-ish effect at the tunnel. It might feel like a lot of power weapons, but it has been tested, and it was quite balanced actually.

    It supports slayer, king of the hill, oddball, juggernaut and infection.

    The centerpiece with the killball, with an invisibility accessable by jumping over the killball. There's a power drain accessable only when crouching, and a needler under this little platform. And it's the spawnplace of the oddball.

    Attacker's base. A bruteshot in the back, 2 plasma nades, and a br in the front to the left.

    Defender's base, the tunnel. also one of the hills. Theres a mauler inside and 2 plasma nades at one of the entrances, and a br in the front. A bubbleshield on the roof.

    This is what the short bridge leads to. Theres a carbine under the bridge, and a br on top of it. theres also a rocket launcher on the bridge. Theres another mauler on the wooden sidewalk. You can also access this fron under the bridge.

    You can find a hammer, and 2 plasma rifles here. And some grenades...There's also a man cannon shooting you up to the platforms.

    Close-up on the sniper, with the tunnel in the background. This is kind of a signature for me, to balance the sniper like this. I somethies do it with a rocket launcher too, but its much harder :)

    Did you test the map? The KOTH hills look fairly small, which doesn't look like that would reflect apon good gameplay. I do like your bases design because it definitly tops the default maps symetrical feel. Possibly the highlight of this map is the bridge that you worked on. The lines of sight are decent, though in your overview picture it shows that you could use something a bit exciting on the left side. Again, well put together, hope to get a game on this later.

    Bah! In some spots it looks like you actually tried, and in other spots looks like random junk. The KoTH spots are small, as Gollygeeanelite stated, and you didn't even show other gametypes.

    Now I'll rate it. Concept 6/10. "We were working on a temple and built stuff around it." Design 7/10. Some spots look cool, as others spots are either too random or fugly, and what's with jumping over a killball? Crafting 7/10. So you know how to interlock, it still doesn't mean you're not lazy. The best forged spot of the map is the tunnel. Overall I'll give this a generous 6.5/10. Skill and Experience are achieved over time.
