Also, Thanks to Glitch100 for making a different version, that some people may understand a little better. However, we still need a video tutorial so I can make the final draft of how to get this to work. I beleive that would probably be the most helpful thing.

Great discovery yoyo, really neat trick that will come in useful I'm sure.

In regards to the innaccuracy of the technique, people have mentioned it will only merge into objects/geometry halfway and then it stops? Well if that is the case, surely objects can be used to brace the glitched object as it wont merge past the tear drop and therefore stops the glitched object in a certain position and therefore 'braces' the glitched object. If that technique can be used then this really will change forging dramatically.

I'll try it out in forge when I have time and possibly make a video, does anyone get what I mean?

I got it to work first time, its brilliant!

I've probably stick to the usual method for most merging but this way is much better for those complicated bits, like merging in to the pipe down to the crypt.

I firgured it out, works 100% of the time. I also made it easier to understand/do. I can make a video tutorial if you want...

Okay, I finally got it to work, I saved and quit so that my double box was about half way into the floor..... But then I started the map up again and the double box rose about 2 ft...

huh, well, it's a cool trick, but not very reliable tbh.

Your box rose because of the vector. The closest vector was up, so it moved up. If you had moved the box a little to the left, or right, it would be totally successfull. Also, its a lot easier on sandbox, but its magical if you are making a MLG map on foundry, and just need to block off a little area. This technique seems to be most effective for non-linear designs as well as fixing little holes in your map rather quickly.

I would love it if somebody would finally make a video tutorial. If you do, just post it in this thread so that I can copy and paste it into the final draft of the tutorial. The tutorial that will probably make forging 101 as soon as its complete. Thank you

I completely understand, but the problem is when this glitch is active, your moniter speed changes to the theater camera speed. This means the object will spin unnaturally fast, and the little thing that keeps it from going all the way down is like a tiny little bead; totally round. It will sorta help you brace it, but the technique still seems most effictive if you use it to clean up your map, or geomerge in akward positions.

Also, this helps wonders when forging on blackout, orbital, and assembly. Good enough that I recomend you take the time to make a map on one of those.

Vectors are the little points that objects will clip to when you save and quit. The system bungie used was created to save as much space as possible, and by making tens of thousands of little points instead of trillions, the maps actually fit onto your harddrive. The obvious downside is that you might have so "seismic activity" after you save and quit. This problem really only affects you if your are forging with walls layed on their side, or outside of a map. Two possible way to fix it: A) Turn the block upside down, basically leaving the teardrop in the map. B) Use a different object. If you want more detail, bungie posted a huge wall of text that explained this in detail when Mythic came out. I would reccomend taking a visit to b.net to check it out.

Hmmm, inquery, Are you able to spawn other objects and do this, or can you only ghost the ORIGINAL OLN items? I.E. I placed down more double blocks and then tried to do it, Maybe I did something wrong, but I couldn't get it to work that way.

Hopefully im just doing something wrong.

Turns out you can have a second player walk on the object you're ghosting, so for those saying that this will be highly inaccurate, have a second player (I just used a second controller, not actually a "player") walk over it testing for bumps. However the second player has to initiate the motion, if the monitor pushes the object at the player it'll go through him.

I still can't get not-original-OLN peices to do this. which is quite unfortunate

A better name would be Ghost Merging or No Clip Merging... considering the object you are using the geo with is a cloned ghost of the original object and or the other name fits because you can put it through anything.
