What do you map design? I thought it was great, especially Wonderland. The one world I like was Atlantica but hated the confusing water paths... There's so many paths to end up in one place...

Fable 2, they way you see your sister again 20 years after she was murdered. That was one of the most touching moments in my video game life.
All of Mirrors Edge, especially the final level, its music, and the music of the 8th level ( in that building under construction)

Gears of War 2. I almost cried in the cut scene where Dom finally finds Maria. And then he pops her in the face with a shotty. I'm tearing up already.

I would say a lot of games have in one way or another.

Scenes like Dom and Maria in Gears 2 of course, but I also love scenes that freak me out.

To name a few, the first beserker in Gears 1. Just the cutscene beforehand when the guy gets ripped to shreds behind a wall, had me wanting to turn the TV off and walk away.

The scene in Bioshock when you arrive in Rapture and a splicer attacks the submarine thing you are in. A chill went down my spine, my heart raced, and I had to pause and walk away for a couple of minutes.

The ending to Halo 3, when I thought the chief was really gonna die, and in the Force Unleashed, the dark side ending where the emperor pulls down the ship and you become the sith bounty hunter thing. I just dropped my controller and gasped in that cutscene.

And most recently, in Arkham Aslyum. most of the game had my mouth on the floor, but two scenes in particular freaked me out. Those two being the first and third Scarecrow sequences. The first one scared me so badly I involuntarily screamed and fell off my couch. And the third one, I stood up, I thought my game had broken down, and then when the opening sequence starts up with the roles reversed, I was so unsure of what was happening I thought something possessed my game.

So yea, those would be all of the most emotionally intense video game sequences I can think of off the top of my head.

The third Scarcrow sequence in Batman Arkham Aylum was one of the greatest moments in gaming for me. Just too epic to explain, just find out yourself.

Final Fantasy X, without a doubt in my mind the best game I've ever played. Amazing graphics for it's time, awesome gameplay and the most epic story line and characters ever. If you have a used game store around you I highly suggest you pick it up (it's like 10 bucks and for the PS2)

Halo 2. I got it with my xbox. In the past I had only had a ps2 and dreamcast. At the time, I RARELY used the internet because we had dial up. Then I went to a friend's house who had cable. I didn't know what the internet was capable of. I thought the computer was just for paying bills and playing sonic the hedgehog on.

Halo 2 was my first game for the xbox. Up till that point, I had never played online. I had never even HEARD of online games like these. When I went to the store, I asked for an xbox live. I thought that an xbox live, was a new version of the xbox with online capabilities. Then the man explained to me that xbox live was something you subscribed to, not a console. I looked like the dumbest 12 year old ever.

So I turned on my xbox, and fired up a game. It was christmas morning. I had never played an online game, as we had just gotten cable the month before, due to me being a hick farmer boy. I remember staying up all night. It was the greatest thing ever. I will never forget that.

Portal: Prelude. A mod for PC that takes place before Glados was installed, and you take part in the tests with a real human talking to you. The ending was the part that really moved me, and I found it rather hard to sleep with that ending in my head.... And even though it wasn't made by valve, and therefore couldnt really make any storychanging changes, It did the ending really, really well.

This is a mod for Portal for PC by the way.

Oh, I definitely agree with you there Grif. I love that "Whole Entire" game. The intro was excellent, and also the music! Everything worked so well together in that game, if i had not rented it from gamefly, i would still be playing it at this point!

Kingdom Hearts, in my mind, will always be the greatest game to me. The whole story, the disney and FF cameos, everything just made me feel great. The music in the menu and intro is another reason why i adore the KH series, its just so freaking mellow!

Mass Effect should also be on everyone's list! The story was just so great, and i love the dialogue interaction too. Mass Effect did not disappoint me from beginning to end! I cant wait to ME2 releases... ME is the reason why i went out to buy KOTOR 2...

in super smash bros for the n64, whenever i got to the master hand boss guy, i would have like a panic attack. the way the music was and the frustration of spending an hour to get to a glove with 2000 life.
